COSTAS AVERKIOU
(1917 - 1981)
Born in Psimolophou
He finished the vollage elementary
school and worked with his father as a carpenter, acquiring thus invalueable
knowlege in woodcarving, which later found expression in his work as an
artist.
In 1945 he established a
workshop in Nicosia, while also periodically working as a sign maker and
in graphic arts in general, while applying himself systematically to painting.
He got actively involved
in engraving (wwodcarving) in 1957.
From 1947 until his death
he participated in many exhibitions.
In 1957 he received second
prize at the 6th International Moscow Festival and in 1963 he was awarded
a medal for his participation in the Alexandria Biennale. He also participated
in the Venice Biennale in 1972.
